Chris
Conway Chris Conway is a mercurial musician. Hailing originally from Michigan, USA, he now
lives in the UK where he has made a reputation for excellence in many areas of music.
ZahZah are the first label to release albums displaying his work in 3 distinct areas of
music.
On Bird Dancer his skills as a multi-instrumental wizard and world music fusionist
are to the fore with the internationally acclaimed world music group Jazz Orient (also
known as Re-Orient) with Baluji Shrivastav and Linda Shanovitch. World class world
music...
He is also known in the jazz world, (as Breathtaking demonstrates) having worked
with fusion violin maestro Dr L. Subramanium, Gavin Bryars, Derek Bailey, and Stan
Sulzman, amongst others. Despite playing other instruments on Breathtaking, it is
his irresistible, evocative piano playing that is the focus here, along with his wonderful
gift for lyrical composition. Classic modern jazz...
In the UK, he is best known it as a singer-songwriter on the folk/roots scene, having
releasing 3 CDs. He has worked with the creme of the UK folk/rock world including members
of Fairport Convention, Jethro Tull, and he is part of the Vikki Clayton Band. ZahZah
proudly re-release Chris's "lost" '95 debut songs album Sounds Like Rain
(digitally remastered with 3 bonus tracks!), which brilliantly demonstrates Chris's
wonderful singing, songwriting and playing. A US West Coast-meets-Celtic Roots
mix...
There is something common in all Chris Conway's music, whatever the style - there is a
certain special quality - Chris's music is like a film, each track taking the listener to
a magic place.
