The David Gordon Trio
The David Gordon Trio was formed in 1995 for a two week national tour of the UK
sponsored by Jazz Services UK and the Danish Music Council. The tour included such venues
as the Royal Festival Hall (as part of the London International Jazz Festival), Brighton
Jazz Club and the Albert Inn, Bristol. The band also made a recording for broadcast on the
BBC's premier jazz programme Impressions. The Trio undertook another more extensive tour
of the UK in September 1996 funded again by Jazz Services UK and the Danish Jazz
Association, which included an appearance at the Sherbourne Jazz Festival and a
performance with saxophonist Andy Sheppard.
The repertoire of the David Gordon Trio combines highly arranged material, much of
which is original, with very free treatments of jazz standards. The European quality of
their approach to the music reflects the diverse origins of the band members. Their sound
is instantly recognisable, the musicianship impeccable, but the element which communicates
most strongly with audiences is the band's sense of playfulness and fun.
